Lazareti

Lazareti were built as a preventive health measure during the Dubrovnik Republic to protect against infectious diseases like the plague. On July 27, 1377, Dubrovnik became the first in the world to introduce quarantine. Lazareti is the only fully preserved quarantine building in the European Mediterranean and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1994.
